New NHL job posting – Programming Coordinator, Broadcasting

ResumeWriters.comThe National Hockey League has a new job posting available this morning, as they seek to hire a Programming Coordinator. This is an opportunity to get your foot in the door on the broadcasting side of the NHL, and the position is located in New York City. It sounds like a great job for someone relatively new coming out of college, but perhaps with some internship experience in the broadcasting field:

The ideal candidate for the position should have a strong interest in the National Hockey League brand and sports media.  They must possess strong interpersonal skills and be a team player. Business writing skills including presentation development and the ability to work in a  fast paced environment and being able to meet tight deadlines a must.

What you don’t see in those requirements are phrases like “X years of experience”, or “MBA required”. While I wouldn’t quite qualify this as “entry level”, it certainly reads as something pretty close to that.

You can find all the details, and instructions on how to apply, by clicking here. Good luck!

They sit too loosely on a player’s head, or the chin strap dangles far lower than necessary, allowing the helmet to fly off in the event of a collision, just when it’s really needed most.

So make sure to review the following video, for a few invaluable tips on how to make sure your hockey helmet fits correctly. [Read more...]

5 Things You May Not Have Known About the Red Wings/Avalanche Brawl of 1997

Today marks the 15th anniversary of what to me represents the pinnacle of the “fighting allows players to self-police the game” argument, the March 26, 1997 brawl between the Detroit Red Wings and Colorado Avalanche at Joe Louis Arena.

This was my first opportunity to cover an NHL game as a member of the credentialed media, and as luck would have it, I got a first-hand view of perhaps the greatest regular season NHL game in living memory. Detroit & Colorado were the two best teams in the league, and clearly there was a tremendous amount of bad blood built up over the previous year, stemming from the Claude Lemieux/Kris Draper hit, of course.

Take a few moments to savor some video of the glory days, and below, you’ll find a few facts which you may not have known about this game…
